Tasting Notes
Our special Heritage Block Zinfandel shows delightful aromas of allspice, chocolate and vanilla barrel toast. Ripe and well structured, the wine presents a deep core of plum and black currant flavors with lively acidity and a rich supple tannin structures.
Production Notes
Although 2014 was year three of a drought, our Zinfandel vines showed little sign of being aware of the water scarcity. Yields were still strong and the fruit matured at a steady pace with the long, warm days. We use a three-day cold soak on our Zinfandel lots to maximize color extraction early, before the alcohol starts to build from fermentation. We then allow the must to warm up naturally to 80 degrees and begin fermentation with native yeasts. Pumpovers are aerated and vigorous early on, then shortened and gentler later in fermentation. The wine was aged in American oak for 30 months and bottled in May 2017.

“The Kunde Family has farmed their historic vines in the Sonoma Valley since 1904, solidifying their place in California winemaking history. The 4th generation of Kundes chose to plant a collection of Zinfandel cuttings from historically significant California vineyards. This established a signature legacy block of vines, know as the Heritage Block, which future generations will nurture and cultivate.”
